Barely Alive has been making classic dubstep tunes from their adopted hometown of LA for years now. Originally from the East Coast, the two producers have been pals since they were kids and use that shared history to create tracks that heat up the internet and - now that the pandemic is winding down - the dance floor. They check all the boxes for a good time: fun novelty costume, riddim beats, b2bs and collage with heavy hitters, and an appreciation for the finer decades (it's not hard to hear that 80s influence). The duo consists of two nice dudes (Matt Meier and Willie Watkins) with a network of raving fans, including Beatport users, the label heads at Disciple Recordings, and Getter. Barely Alive has toured globally, hitting festivals and the clubs in Tel Aviv, Zurich, LA, and more. Barely Alive may be just as beloved for their tutorials and handmade samples as they are for their music. While they are a duo on record, most live shows feature Willie as a the solo touring member. The DJ dons a flashing, mean mugging box (ostensibly a microwave with an attitude) on his head while he whips the crowd into a frenzy. Certainly as fun to watch as to headbang or dance to.
